What is Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy?

I provide a therapeutic approach known as Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) through a partnership with Journey Clinical.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a comprehensive treatment where ketamine is used in conjunction with psychotherapy to facilitate more frequent breakthroughs and sustained symptom relief for eligible patients. In this partnership, I handle the psychotherapeutic aspects, while the medical team at Journey Clinical manages all medical components. This includes assessing eligibility, crafting a personalized treatment plan, prescribing the medication, and overseeing outcomes.

Below, you will find additional details about KAP to help you determine whether it is suitable for you.

What is Ketamine?

Ketamine, a legally approved and safe medication, is effective in treating various mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD. It is known for its fast-acting antidepressant and mood-boosting properties, with effects starting within 1-2 hours after administration and potentially lasting up to two weeks.

Ketamine operates by inhibiting the NMDA receptors in the brain while simultaneously activating AMPA receptors. This dual action is believed to promote the formation of new synaptic connections and strengthen neural pathways involved in stress and mood regulation. Additionally, ketamine has been demonstrated to increase neuroplasticity, contributing to sustained improvements in symptoms.

Ketamine can be delivered through several methods such as IV infusion, intramuscular injection, nasal spray, and sublingual lozenges. In my collaboration with Journey Clinical, we utilize sublingual lozenges for administration.

How Does Ketamine Feel?

Ketamine typically creates effects that most patients describe as pleasant, lasting around 45 minutes. During this time, you may experience a sensation of being detached from your body and perceive things in expansive ways. Due to reduced motor and verbal abilities, you'll be resting comfortably throughout the session.

Post-experience, once the effects have worn off, we dedicate time to allow you to process and discuss what you've encountered. Though it might be challenging to verbalize your experience, the insights often remain impactful. Research indicates that the positive effects on mood and neurological growth from a ketamine session can persist for up to two weeks.

How Does KAP Work?

All eligibility and medical decisions are determined by Journey Clinical’s KAP-trained medical team. Clients must be over the age of 18.
